With Golem Korab peak height of 2,764 meters above sea level, Korab is the highest mountain in Macedonia. In times of Yugoslavia it was disputed whether Korab or Triglav in Slovenia should take the lead for the whole country.
Macedonia has 35 peaks above 2,000 meters.
You can climb Korab both, from the Macedonian and from the Albanian side as it resides on the border between the two countries.
Massive climb to Mount Korab is organized each September by PSD Korab in Skopje. It is usually organized on 8 of September, Macedonia's Independence Day. More than 1,000 people are known to participate in this climb every year.
Climbing from the Macedonian side involves entering the Macedonian-Albanian no mans land area, therefore a special permit is required, but people regularly hike Korab mountain without it.
This was one of my first climbs back in 2009 accomplished with couple of good friends, one of them being @mirkovski on the picture at the summit, followed by a couple of more climbs in the following years.
Steem On!
So this is 2009, what are the conditions for climbing Korab today?

PSD Korab still organizes the climb in September, I think that is the best time to climb Korab.
