Hike to Twin Lakes

My friend Caity loves to hike - she is doing the 52HikeChallenge and created the Sacramento Hikers & Backpackers group on Facebook to connect likeminded souls who also love to hike. So, what better way to celebrate her birthday weekend than with a HIKE! We were joined by another hiker friend of hers, Dane, who suggested we hike starting at Wrights Lake near South Lake Tahoe (2 hour drive from Sac), through Desolation Wilderness, and to Twin Lakes and Island Lake. It was roughly 9-10 miles, 1300 ft elevation gain, and took us almost 6 hours with stops to enjoy the scenery.

It was BEEEAAAUUUTIFUL!! Every step of the way we were greeted by pine trees sticking out of the granite, amazing overlooks, rocks to hop on, babbling streams, and of course, the clear lakes at our final destination (which were close to freezing but did not stop me from jumping to see just how cold they are!). Throughout the hike, Caity, Dane, and I enjoyed candid, deep conversations with each other on feminism, work life, political perspectives, marriage, the food industry, non-profits, and everything else under the sun.

I highly encourage everyone to #getoutside and commune with nature - there’s nothing else quite like it.
