The most beautiful glacier of the world.

Iceland offers one of the greatest views of landscapes and glaciers, lunar like terrains, volcanoes and the list goes on. About 11% of the area of Iceland is covered with glaciers. Iceland has about 269 named glaciers in it having all types of glaciers like ice caps, mountain and alpine etc.

The largest of Europe and Iceland's glacier is Vatnajokull, with an area that spans over 8300 sq. km.

Dive into a volcano.

The country has to offer a combined 130 active and inactive volcanoes that you could see. It is because Iceland is situated at mid Atlantic ridge and in the middle of two tectonic plates.

The most famous volcano of Iceland are Eyajafjallajokul, Thrihnukagigur, Grimston, Hekla. As difficult are they to pronounce are as beautiful they are to see. Eyajafjallajokul volcano is the most famous volcano in Iceland and a big tourist destination after its erruption in 2010. Two new mountains were formed by the eruptions of volcanic lava and ashes, and they were named after Thor's sons in Nordic mythology.

You could go inside an inactive volcano to observe its inner and true beauty.

The snow covered mountains provides a charismatic view where you could go on trekking or enjoy horse ride with a mountain on one side and sea on other. These views are as beautiful as one can't even imagine.

Even the horses and ponies of this country are as beautiful as the landscapes.

Watch the Northern lights.

The Northern lights also called Aurora Borealis could be a magnificent view if you are lucky to watch them. These lights are caused due to collision of charged particles from sun and magnetic field of earth. So these lights can be seen both at northern and southern hemisphere, but unless you are a scientist working on a southern hemisphere, it is very hard to go and watch these lights there. So the best location to see these lights is Europe and preferably Iceland iconic views.

Scuba dive in between two continents

Scuba Diving is always fun, but in Iceland you could increase the fun and thrill by scuba diving between two continents. In lake Pingvallavtn you could scuba dive between two continents i.e North America and Eurasian tectonic plates. The lake is filled with glacier run water with clear visibility up to 200 meters.

Hot Springs.

The country is full of ice, water, and volcanoes, which means there will be a lot of hot springs there due to geothermal activity. While some of the hot springs have really hot water and it is not suggested to go near them, some have almost perfect temperature to take a bath.

These include The Blue Lagoon, Myvatn Nature Baths and the Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal baths.

Also there are hot spring rivers like Rekkjadalur near Rekjavik and a mountainside river hot spring pool Seljavallalaug.

Because of all these beautiful landscapes, the geothermal activities and because of the world famous tv series game of thrones, Iceland has become the top tourist destination for all nature enthusiasts.

I have already been there a couple of years ago and I can definitely recommend it :) It is so so beautiful! ;)

Sure it is a combination of all the natural beauties. Hope you visit there again.

me too^^

Iceland is no doubt one of the best places to visit, but I read that large numbers of visitors to the Island made life worst for the locals
it is harder to find a decently priced apartment in Reykjavik because of property owners a renting it to the visitors for a much higher rate on B&B sites, it would be nice to hear from the Icelanders if there are for more tourist to their unique islands or there are against it?

From what I hear, they are quite happy and welcoming to the tourist.

Beautiful!

Sure it is.

I've always wanted to go there ..

then you will definitely go there one day.

Did you get a chance to read my Tiger story ?

healing my soul.

Go to Iceland to free your soul.

What a great place to visit, not far from Britain, I really should go sometime. Interestingly the Brits are the second largest tourist arrivals as well.

Awesome post and photos! Iceland would be so cool!
