Sharing adorable pictures of the Natural World #6

Dear friends on Steemit,

Biophilia is the term used to describe human beings’ natural desire to be connected with nature.

"Sharing adorable pictures of the Natural World" is a project to upload a post daily with pictures and information from my files @nawi and other sources about the natural surroundings; vegetation, landscapes and animals of where I live and work in Papua New Guinea https://www.maf-papuanewguinea.org and hope people who see them can refresh their thoughts and have their minds at ease from the hassles of the day!

This is the 6th post of the project and here I’d like to share a picture of a toad immersed in an opening in the ground and camouflaged with the soil, and pictures of a locust.

Cane toads (pictured above) are not native to Papua New Guinea. They were introduced by colonial administrators to control "the hawk moth larvae eating sweet potato crops" but now pose a serious threat to the native wildlife.

Locusts (pictured above) "are certain species of short-horned grasshoppers. These insects are usually solitary, but under certain circumstances they become more abundant and change their behaviour and habits, becoming gregarious"

The pictures of the locust were taken using a Panasonic DMC-G3 camera and the picture of the cane toad is from a Canon ELPH 520 HS camera.
