It isn’t easy to determine how much of Pass-a-Loutre’s constantly shifting landscape has disappeared, but the wider bird's foot delta has lost more than 113,000 acres over the past half century, according to the state coastal authority. In 50 years, only about half of it is expected to remain.

Interesting article about Louisiana's wildest parkland and how it is disappearing at an alarming rate. The amount of wetlands lost to erosion and the leveeing of the Mississippi River is a staggering number. The saddest part is the most people have never seen the area, they just don't know how beautiful it really is, what a shame. Anyway, the past is the past, looking forward and correcting our mistakes should be goal number one. And the biggest bang for the buck in rebuilding the wetlands is fresh water diversions, it's the way that nature intended. Hopefully the word will spread and people will push for environmental solutions to this crisis. If the government is listening, rebuilding the wetlands has it all; a green project, saving the environment, and a job creator. Let's get it done!
