Similar like a Cobra - Carnivorous Plant from California

in nature •  7 years ago  (edited)

The cobra lily comes from the similarity of its tubular leaves with the head of a tall cobra. It ends with a bifurcate leaf, yellow or purple-green, that resembles the fangs of a snake.

The flower is yellowish purple and grows with a length similar to the stem, it has five green sepals that are longer than the petals of red.

Darlingtonia califórnica is unique, since it does not trap rainwater in its jug, but regulates it by pumping from its roots or expelling it, as appropriate. Its leaves do not produce digestive enzymes, since the cells that absorb food are identical to the roots of the soil, relying on symbiotic bacteria.

How to grow it?
For its cultivation, it is necessary that the substrate never exceed 20Cº of temperature, because its roots are very sensitive to heat. It should be watered by the 'tray method', but watering from above with very cold water.

Edit : you can see it hunting here !!

Now I am also understanding you better. I know you are a nature lover, but do you grow plants at home? I used to have a large collection of indoor and outdoor plants. I used to spend most of my free time taking care of them. Would love to do it all over again.
Cheers :)
