FACE TO FACE WITH A WATER MOCCASIN

in nature •  7 years ago

Yes, you know I enjoy activities like this.

I had the opportunity to photograph a Cottonmouth Snake down by the creek today. It was just a little one, but it cooperated well, no one got bit, and I walked away with some great photos. See what you think!

SMILE FOR THE CAMERA

This is a great shot.
The color and he is alive too.
Mouth wide open, he is thinking about something.
Reading your blog made me go easy about snake.
It is good to know something before you say anything about it.
Thanks for sharing.

Yeah a new snake article, I love your reptile posts @papa-pepper!!! 👏

Great photos, hopefully you get some danger pay for these great shots! Damn snakes are strange, like a giant tube with a mouth on the end like wtf. A tube and a mouth and you can survive 70 million years of evolution,.. It's a crazy world!

Those are great pics. I just got done tanning a cottonmouth and I did a post on it.

I'm only looking at the pictures and I'm scared with that mouth opened and raised... Hahahaha

What kind of camera are you using Papa Pepper? Are you getting these great pics from your phone?

Canon EOS Rebel T7i

@papa-pepper and I’m scared of snake but this is good picture, good job men

@papa-pepper, that is a huge display of boldness cos Cottonmouth is a very venomous snake and also a species of pit viper. Lest I forget to mention, Awesome shots... Shots like this are never for the chicken hearted. Kudos!

no one does it better papa-pepper! in fact, no one does it at all! well very few anyways. you have to be careful how close you get no? It looked like you were right above or beside it, how far can they strike?

Sure, you have to be careful. I can usually guess how far their strike range is pretty well, so I keep a safe distance away... close, but still safe... so far.

can't wait for the "swimming with the water moccasins" episode! although it gives me shivers just thinking about it. lol

Hopefully soon! I've got some cliff jumping I want to try first and a little late night exploration. Hang in there, I'll get it done.

oh take your time! I'm not sure I'm ready for that.. :)

I was fishing over a culvert and a big one swam right under my feet and scared the shit out me, I hopped up real quick.

Cool! I would have had a hard time not going in after it...

Why not, there has only been one fatal cottonmouth bite in modern times.

Deadly snake and you have captured so nicely @papa-pepper

Kindly have a look on my work too

Wow! He looks coiled and ready to spring so glad no one got bit!

It was really a great activity and I can see that you both enjoyed it. Great shots

really great shoot ,, you are very great brother ,, success for you

It sure looks menacing! I’m starting to think it takes a special kind of person to live where you live..

LOL - Did you just call me "special?"

I am very sorry, because this animal is very dangerous

Amazing, very nice photo, I enjoy the photo .. I am waiting for another photo from you. Very good for today

Looks like fun. He was not real happy. They don't usually run, but rarely attack they just sort of stand their ground. I would much rather come up on a cottonmouth than a copperhead. I've always had bad luck with copperheads.

Yup, they mostly sit there with an open mouth.... hence the name Cottonmouth. Thanks man!

wow, this looks very scary, but i love to see this.

I like to see it too! Thanks!

your welcome, my friend.

Chai this snake is scaring don't think I can wiatand this hope not to dream about this snake Tonight

My o my! @papa-pepper, I don't know what to say with all this scary pictures of what you called cottonmouth snake. A cottonmouth with fangs up and down huh?

I don't know if my phobia for you has exceeded my phobia for snakes. Menh, you've got a real strong concrete heart to do this.

They seem scary to many, so you are not alone.

Woow ,, amazing, you dare to take a photo like that.

A zoom lens would probably help, but this works too.

Fabulous! Especially since no one was bit. :) Really like image #1.

Thanks man!

I cannot believe how close you're able to get to the snake without it launching towards you!! As a whole, would you say snakes are docile?!

Most snakes aren't looking for a fight. I stay a safe distance away, no matter what the photo looks like.

Whew! It seems like you are right up next to them just inches away!

Nice job boss, you are like the America Version of Austin Stevens Snake Whisperer I like the non venomous ones, I will leave the ones with lava teeth to the pro's.

Cheer$;)

Just a silly question, @papa-pepper. I know you don't ever get bitten by poisonous snakes, but do you have anti-venom on hand in case someone gets bitten?

Hahaha, no I would not ever enjoy an activity like that. Its eye just screams “I’m going bite you.” Nice to see it did not have giant fangs to be seen at least.

That is such a beautiful specimen! I loved the straight on shot the best, it looks very intimidating!
I saw a bear last night! I made a post.

Oh lord 🙈🙈🙈I almost threw my phone just at the site of the snake picture 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Got me really scared 😱

Nice picture though but really scared the shit outta me because I fear that animal 🙈

I am in a nearby state from you, Kentucky. We have cottonmouths up here in the woods all the time. We actually had a copperhead up in the garden that coiled up on me in the yard the other day when I was walking my dog. Stay safe out there and thanks for the wonderful photos!

Mate these photos are fantastic. What an awesome find. I wish I could get that close to the snakes here in Australia. Sadly most that you encounter are venomous and quite bitey. I used to have to wrangle them as part of my work but, naturally, in those situations you don't stop for a happy snap.

The worst ones I encountered were Death Adders. Their name is fitting. Evil little beasts are those demons.

Yes, the snakes y'all got are extreme!

I love animals but snakes are not one of it, I have of late learnt of snake massage and people keeping snakes as pet. Snakes scares the hell out of me. But judging from your pictures it's a beautiful snake. The colour on it's skin are shining and it's very colourful, it is a dangerous snake? I mean is it's venom very harmful?

Ahhhhhhhhh! Thunder! aaaaaaaahhhhhh! Thunder!

You're a lot more daring than I would be. I think I would give it as wide a berth as possible.

Hey, on a different note, I'm house sitting for some friends and one of their chickens hatched a duck egg. The duckling was born today and I'm not sure how to take care of it. I thought if anyone would know, it would probably be Papa Pepper.

Momma chicken and baby duck are in a laying box in the coop. There are 12 other hens that use the coop (and sometimes butt into the laying box). There are also 3 wild mallard drakes that sleep in the bottom of the coop at night (separate from the chickens).

Sorry for the off topic. Do you use discord? I'm the same name there.

shot you a message on discord
