The unrelenting force of erosion

in nature •  7 years ago

Wind, tide, and waves can be so random yet so precise in their ability to change a landscape. This is Masonboro Island on the coast of Southeastern North Carolina. It is an undeveloped stretch of coast that only can be accessed at certain tides. This leaves it empty a lot of the time and especially in winter. The consolidation of shell and sand is evident in the layers of this mini beach cliff. The chunkiest shells lock together and the sugary sand flows downward by never ending wind gusts. This scene could change overnight with the coming of the next storm.
