Whale Watching in the Pacific Northwest - What to expect

in nature •  7 years ago

People from all over the world travel yearly to British Columbia, Washington State to see Orcas (Killer Whales), Humpbacks, Pacific Gray's and many other marine animals.

Peak Season is May - Sept. My favorite time however is between July-Oct as guests have a higher chance to see both Orcas and Humpbacks on a single tour. Be prepared however to see only one type and they might only be surfacing. All captains work together to locate these wild, amazing animals, but they are WILD. Rarely do guests come back not seeing any whales, but this does happen. Most companies offer a "Whale Guarantee" , if you don't see a whale, they will take you out again at no charge. Ask if they offer a guarantee.

Multiple companies offer these tours that last 3-4 hours. Best to do your homework prior to booking as each vessel is different from the other. If your an adventure seeker, wanting the ultimate thrill ride, choose the Zodiac style vessels. They usually only take 12 passengers per trip. If your looking at a more comfortable vessel to be on, pick the larger boats.
