Good morning Community of steemit, today I leave the topic of recommendations because I want to talk about one of the most known dog breeds, and yes, that unfortunately is being destroyed. So let's start!
The German Shepherd, that breed of dog whose origin goes back to 1899 created by Maximilian von Stephanitz with the purpose of caring the herds of the wolves, to be a strong race, with character and very loyal.
But why do I say that we are destroying it?
Well it turns out that this breed as it began to make canine beauty contests was deteriorating, selective breeding along with endogamy was significantly deteriorating its genetics, resulting dogs that looks good in appearance, but what they cause them is pain.
The constant mixing between relatives (even father and daughter) has been disastrous, leading to a lot of diseases such as hip dislocation, skin cancer, nervous temperament and generally a weakening of the body which makes life expectancy of this specimen is only about 10 years, and all this because the breeders are committed to making the dog more "beautiful" without taking into account all the diseases that this entails.
Generally the German Shepherd of beauty line has the hip very fallen causing them t problems to walk and to run, a finest and long snout, weak character, adding the diseases that I already mentioned
And you will wonder, but if the German shepherd has so many problems why the police uses them?
Well, fortunately this breed was divided into several of the best known ones (the one that shows a lot of inbreeding) German (similar to beauty but without less diseases) and work line (which are darker) Dogs used by the police are generally mixtures between them and other breeds of shepherds or directly just the line of work.
The line of work (the famous DDR) tends to show solid work structure, with heavy bones and huge heads and a strong temperament, clearly being healthier than the aforementioned since their breeders focus on work and not beauty.

Well, with nothing more to say I say goodbye and thank you for your support.

It really is a shame, the damage that happens to so many dogs through inbreeding. I've never understood why we encourage mating patterns in our pets that we would never condone among people.
The German Shepard was a favorite of my grandfather's. Of course, they were called Alsatians in those days; we didn't want to give credit to the Germans after WWII. He had several. They were strong and loyal dogs, but they could be vicious too, and he had to keep them on a short leash around children and strangers.

I find it sad that we want pure breed dogs as opposed to mixed breed dogs. I have a "mutt" and he is the best dog ever with a few quirks in his personality, but no major health problems other than being allergic to wheat.

Having a purebred dog is not bad. The bad thing begins with inbreeding between very close relatives (grandfather-granddaughter) because they have "nice" aspects that they want to maintain, which causes the genetic quality to decrease causing illnesses and deformations

Your article has a good point about the separation of the GSD breed between show dogs and working dogs.
It falls a little short on the working blood line.
The two more famous working blood lines you often see used by military and police all over the world do come from the former DDR (Eastern Germany) and from the Czech Republic.
They are not bred with other dog breeds. Since they were however bred in a closed governmental system they have developed characteristics different from the non working show blood lines.
Yes these blood lines have more in common with the original breed from the mid to late 1800s.
I am starting a k9 training site here on Steemit you are welcome to check it out. ##
