Iceplant - non-native and invasive but unfortunately common California ground cover

Iceplant is coastal succulent shrub native to South Africa. It was introduced in California by the railroads and Caltran (California Department of Transportion) in the early 1900s. Initially used to prevent erosion and stabilize roadsides, iceplant has become invasive and its use in now discouraged.

We made it to the beach too @steven-patrick. It was a longer walk than usual with two kids in two. Probably took us five minutes! 😱

I'm just showing off now. 😂

It's a shame that plant is invasive. it looks quite pretty. The petals remind me of tissue paper.

Yes it is quite pretty. Thats why I took the photos. Then you study up on it and feel kind of bad for liking a weed :)

I know, @steven-patrick, but there are a lot of flowers that we'd all love, I think, if they hadn't been labelled as weeds.

Dandelions can look really pretty in certain settings, as can the small daisies you get in lawns. 😊

I can see why its called ice-plant. Awesome pic of the beach.

Thanks friend

@steven-patrick, I like these hardy plants that can live in different places. They seem to cling to life with their roots.

Yes and then reward us with their lovely blooms :)

I would love to have that iceplants for ground cover! It is so beautiful, and I bet it will feed the bees, the butterflies, and skippers.

Bees definitely like it. But my luck with getting bees to pose for me isn't that good lol
