Tal Chappar: The Indian Savanna

in nature •  7 years ago

Tal Chappar: The Indian Savanna is an epic tale of the Indian grasslands of Tal Chappar, one of the last refuge of the endangered black bucks, the most graceful antelopes in the world. The movie portrays the rich biodiversity of this land, showing how a particular day unfolds in the timeless grasslands. The movie captures some extremely rare dramatic action shots of the black bucks jumping and leaping high into the air, they being one of the fastest land animals. Witness the biggest Asian antelopes--the blue bull, the migratory Harriers, the raptor birds, the rich floral diversity and the little invertebrates of the black buck land. Greet a female buck as she comes up close and literally licks the camera! The viewer gets to know the secretive social life of the black bucks and the territorial behavior of the males, and their splendid courtship display. The film is a conservation success saga of a land, which once witnessed the black bucks on the very verge of extinction, but due to the efforts of local communities like the Bishnois of Rajasthan, is now seeing a healthy rise in their population. The story, at its climax, leaves a very inspiring message for mankind in that given a strong will and determination, we still can restore the degraded state of our ecosystem, as seen here on the magical land of Tal Chappar: the Indian Savanna.
