Being approached by a Grizzly Bear

in nature •  6 years ago

Well, I have been off the map for the past month working on a small ship along the west coast of Canada out of a small coastal town, Prince Rupert. The region I spent a lot of my time guiding people was in the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary, which was loaded with lots of bears displaying various behaviours.

This large female was along the shoreline and was slowing approaching our zodiac, which was turned off and off the shoreline to ensure she had a lot of space to comfortably walk in. What you do not see in the photo is that there is a large male towards the tree-line, which she appeared to be avoiding and not interested in interacting with. This time of year it is mating time for these huge mammals and we were even lucky to watch this ritual a few times in many different locations during the past month
