cute and cuddly but really tough feet

in nature •  7 years ago

Have you ever looked at a penguin's feet before? Don't get me wrong, my eyes aren't naturally drawn to their feet either. Their figure and way they waddle is far more distracting then their bright pinkish feet, along with their dark claws we call toe nails. However, it is made up of incredible durable and tough tissue that when you do see a penguin carcass along the shoreline in Antarctica the only part really remaining intact is in fact their feet.

It allows them to walk on freezing cold ground, snow and ice. It also allows their eggs and chicks to remain off the cold ground remain warm enough in the freezing world they are born into.

Im Happy to see there Feet, nice click, it reminds me something of Happy Feet.,

Good movie and cute animals

Everything has a reason for being. although their feet are not so pretty, they allow them to move in very cold places, unlike the human being our feet are not prepared, nor adactados to walk descalsos on the ice, or very cold places. Thank you for this information.

This is very true. its a great selective force and driving adaptation to survive such extreme conditions 😊

Nice click dear friend and your writing skill is awesome. Have a great week.

thanks, mate! I greatly appreciate your support 😊

:)

Thanks for that interesting information. I had no idea about their feet.

Hola @thomasjmitchell
Excelente tu comentario acerca de los Pinguinos.
Por cierto a los barbijos se les llama así por la línea negra que va de lado a lado de la mandíbula inferior.
Saludos y Gracias por el artículo

Mucho gracias

Hi @thomasjmitchell A lovely post written, your story is fascinating.

But they are perhaps most famous for enduring the long Antarctic winter on behalf of the next generation. There is only one animal that can live on land during the winter in Antarctica: the penguin! A few other animals can survive the cold temperatures by living in the ocean nearby, including whales, seals, squid, and octopi. Penguins spend about half their time in the ocean and half on land.

Likewise, penguins are one of the few birds that cannot fly. Unlike flying birds, penguins’ bones are heavy and solid, but these qualities give them more weight for swimming and diving in water. Their stiff wings aren’t good for flying, but they make good paddles. And their thick, webbed feet aren’t good for flying, but they are perfect for swimming and walking. Penguins can waddle very fast on land; they also like to jump and slide on their blubbery bellies.

Have a good day. Good luck

Keep posting more like this @thomosjmitchell it's awesome.
