more hunting along the shoreline

in nature •  6 years ago

I have been encountering Bigg's orca almost daily these last few days and sometimes they have been right off the waterfront of Victoria, BC. Yesterday, we picked up a family of Bigg's orca known as the T18's and the big male you see in this photo has a very unique dorsal fin, which does make him to easily identify - T19b.

Here they went straight into hunt mode along the shoreline looking for lunch in the form of a harbour seal along the shallow kelp beds. It appeared from the brief moment we were there that they didn't find anything they were looking for and began to move onto another known seal haul-out area. There it looked like this family of 4 orca got a few fast meals before continuing further north towards Vancouver.

Amazing! I've never seen an orca, the most I've had the privilige to see are dolphins. Incredible and beautiful animals!

This is really a stunning photograph,
amazing work you have done.

This is fantastic what lovely creatures. I was able to see a few from afar on a recent Alaskan cruise but nothing like this!

Beautiful picture, Thanks for sharing this post with us and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed

Beautiful pictures, you are lucky to observe everything live, I have never thought that those beautiful animal can come so close.

The photograph is very impressive, and you were lucky to caught up the right time :)

This place looks as if a dream come genuine region. Especially as it's not acknowledged to vacationers and so few people stay there... it needs to be great. how did you get to listen about it?

I wish i could see this 😍

This is a great capture! I was just up on a whale watch near Vancouver island the other day! Such beautiful animals :)
