Essence of Water

This is an attempt at capturing the "essence" of water. ..

Water flowing endlessly against the hard, immovable rocks. Washing away their material over millennia, essentially leaving its "footprint" on it; namely its softness: turning hard edges into smooth corners...

This is best seen by taking a step backward: the stones in the water can be seen to be smoother than the large rocks protruding from the stream. Eventually the rocks will break down into sand and even the large chunks will break down, becoming smaller and smaller. Nature can work very slowly, but it is always moving.
