technology has increased populations. plumping being one of the largest. feeding yourself in the past on the whole hasnt be that hard. you plant food and hunt but its not as easy as driving to the supermarket. because of this people have such a misrepresentation of nature. Bears eat cubs and moose, elf or deer calves, which destroys the populations, wolves will starve themselves then kill everything and gorge themselves leave entire animals uneaten plus they kill for fun. cougars/mountain lion they eat our pets, when one has to be killed and its opened up its filled with dogs and cats. and my personal favourite, herbivores eat meat. thats right deer eat grown nesting birds, cows will eat baby chicks lol... people idealize nature from the safety and anthropomorphism is a crippling the mindset
