Reporting A Tree Murder in My Neighborhood on TreeTuesday!

in nature •  6 years ago

It's a sad day when you see a healthy, magnificent tree cut down.
It was probably 30 feet tall and more than 25 years old and still looked great to me!
This family cut down their only large tree in their front yard.
Not sure what their reasoning was for cutting down their tree!

Only the trunk and a few branches waiting to be hauled away!

This next photo is of one of the next door neighbor's front yard and you can see how beautiful their yard is compared to the one now without the tree!

It just really shocked me when I saw what they were doing 3 days ago!
This one of the streets I walk my dog on several times a week.

Have a Blessed Day!

The rings of history chopped to pieces. It makes me sad.

Maybe roots can seep into basements but unlikely if the tree is away from the house. Trees may also block the view and block sunlight but I think you get enough sunlight in your neighborhood. You need as much shade as you can get.

Coming back home to Chicago I noticed my dad talks to some neighbors but some neighbors are just impossible to talk to. In my neighborhood in Korea we are so close together we end up talking about whatever bothers us whether we like it or not. Then the neighbors either solve the problem together or explode and yell at each other and then go home. I don't suggest you explode at your neighbor. It is also too late to do anything about a tree that is already down. Planting a new tree would be nice but it wouldn't be the same.

Well @mineopoly, there are no basements in this part of Texas! I went by there again today and they look like they had 2 workers taking out all of their bushes also! Maybe they are starting over on their landscaping; but cutting down the tree completely is extreme! They could have had a tree arborist trim out a bunch of branches to let more light through so they could grow grass and flowers... or maybe the tree roots were causing problems...

Check this out...

I made some corrections of my own.

They could have left their feature tree in place, and kept the entire trunk design, and removed 90% of the limbs to encourage new growth and the formation of a smaller crown. In my design, I kept three main limbs, and shortened them to just barely above the gutter line of the roof.

In a few years, the tree would look less chopped up. They could even chop off the central leader in a few years, to get the tree looking more proportional to the house as the other nearby decorative trees in the yard to match the neighborhood. Then you would get nice slender limbs that are less tall, and keep the beefy base of the trunk. Bonsai!

Too bad the tree is gone now. Did they resurface the outside of the house with brick? It looks like it has regular siding on it in the upper photo. I think someone is getting particular about making renovations.

Nice work!

@violetmed It's very sad that they cut down such a healthy tree. It is very sad how man sometimes harms nature which gives us and provides so many benefits for our well-being. I hope there are laws to defend and preserve our trees. It's very beautiful in your neighborhood. With a very elegant house structure. I'd love to see your dog enjoying it when you take him for a walk on his walks. A big hug, dear friend.

Sad day. And on tree Tuesday that's a sacrilege. Reminds me of a beautiful old elm tree that was taken down in my front yard. It had dutch elm disease and was struggling but I think it was gonna make it. My neighbor reported it to the city who decided it was a hazard. They took it down and "didn't charge me". I was so upset.

Wow, that’s sad!

Yes they were really focused on containing dutch elm disease and saving the remaining trees that weren't affected. So I eventually got over it and planted a Chinese elm which are resistant to dutch elm.

Here's the happy ending :) although I sold that home years ago my elm tree is looking great. We always stop by and check it out when we visit my wife's family.

Oh, it's gorgeous!

SAVE TREE
SAVE NATURE

Hermosas imágenes, parece un lugar encantador, @violemed.

This is really bad news. The trees are very beneficial for us. Trees need too much for natural weather. Well, bad news. How beautiful the neighborhood is when it is a tree

howdy there violetmed! wow I would love to know why they did that, it looks so barren now and detracts from the value of the yard and the street.

At some point they will miss the shade and cover the tree provided, @violetmed.
I guess they took that drastic action because the tree was quite close to the house, so a) perhaps the roots were causing concern, and, b) if there's strong wind, the tree might have damaged the house.
It does make you feel powerless to stop that sort of action. I personally think it could have been just pruned/trimmed.

It's really very sad, we must save trees for the betterment of nature . Instead of cutting them plant more n more trees. May be they have some reasons to cut it, but it's really shameful....Don't worry friend come on ,we all plant more n more trees .

Sad to hear and see. They must not know what they're missing!

My guess is, they cut it down because of the shade it was causing @violetmed, going by the photographs of the neighbouring houses.

I'm always surprised at how little long term thought developers put in when they are planting trees.

We have lots of cases in the UK with a particular type of tree that should never have been planted in the first place. It's very fast growing and way too big for the gardens it was put in but people are allowed to cut it down. Some do anyway and then pay the fine.

I hate to see old trees cut down and, for the most part, they are pretty well protected here and have to be taken into account in new developments etc. I'm happy to say. #sm

Maybe they have a reason to cut it down, we never know, but one thing am sure about is that they will probably missed this tree, shield and fresh air from this big tree will no longer be feel or enjoying.

I feel the same way. I always hate to see when people cut down their trees. Trimming I can understand, esp if they are tall enough to interfere with the power lines. But cut down? No reason for that.

It is quite sad that they cut that big tree. I must say that you live in a very beautiful place

Thank you!

I would like to think that there is a compelling reason for cutting down that tree, @violetmed! I don't think there are such unconscious people capable of such an atrocity. Trees are the lungs of the world. Greetings

I just don't get it. I don't know this family, so I can't ask them why they cut down their tree!

What a tragedy, @violetmed! What insensitivity! There must be a good reason for them to cut down an apparently healthy tree. Aren't there any laws against this in your neighborhood? It is true that nature has no defenders or lawyers. Every fallen tree is a little bit of oxygen that takes us away. How impotent. Hugs for you.

No laws against this, because it was on their property! Yes, less oxygen around their house, now that they cut down their tree!

Y no preguntaste por qué lo habían hecho, @violtmed!! Tú te imaginas que todos en el vecindario empiecen por cortar los árboles de su casa? A dónde irán a parar?

No conozco a la familia, así que no puedo preguntarles por qué la cortaron.

No argument justifies the fact that they cut down that tree, @violetmed! If they say it's because he was sick, there's probably a way to get him back. They have no forgiveness or excuse!

Beautiful post ,,nice blog

LOL

You just planted 0.12 tree(s)!

Thanks to @violetmed

It breaks my heart. My neighbor cut down five Oaks trees that were over hundred years old because he was afraid they would fall down and hit his house someday.

It's really very sad...

Oh I must have missed this last week! I am very sorry!

That is very sad to cut a healthy tree for no reason. Some people would rather have nothing but cement!
