Exploring Sintra underground!

Sintra is a very magical village near Lisbon, its the village of the 7 palaces, and on the top of the small mountain of sintra (529mt) you have the Pena Palace, the most iconic palace of Sintra.

And close to it the Mourish Castle, built around the 8th century by the Mourish and conquered by the first king of Portugal on the 11th century.

Sintra is one of those places that you really should come and visit, you can read a lot about all the palaces and history anywhere online, try to come in the off season because Sintra nowdays is so turistic that you are stuck in lines everywhere.

There are so many myths and legends about Sintra, the misty fog in the middle of the forest silence is breathtaking, wich probably helped a lot bringing such a magical feeling to the place and inspiring so many stories.

Yesterday we decided to explore a bit more of Sintra and the underground paths that supposedly are connected to everywhere around Sintra.

Really nice tunnels, a lot to explore, not so great for pictures.

Another entry/exit

So nice the see light at the end of the tunnel

A really nice exit in the middle of nothing almost 1km away from the start point.

A really nice afternoon, there are so many more underground tunnels to explore, altough many of them are closed nowdays.

I guess the hope to exit inside the Pena Palace will continue to stay in the myths of Sintra histories. ;)

Love your post, it's so so cool . We're going to head over to Sintra in February. Just as a remark, I've noticed that you're using photos of someone else you found on google. It would be nice if you could link to the photographers website. They're you're leading images of the post. Best would be of course to ask permission. Sorry for being like that but our images are getting taking advantage of every single day. Hope you understand.

Thanks! if you need any info's about Sintra im glad to help, february is a great time to come, Quinta da Regaleira is a must go.
As a amateur photographer i totally get it and you're totally right, i edited the post with credits and the website. Altough they are from Parques de Sintra Monte da Lua S.A. (anonymous society..) , the entity that explores all the palaces of sintra and the forest around Sintra.. they shouldnt mind as they make millions exploring the palaces and the forest wood already lol i just wanted to make some intro on what is Sintra for the rest of the post to make some sense :)
Thanks again for your comment, hope to read about your visit to Sintra, any help i can give you just say something!
Cheers

I'm going to get in touch with the society .... they sounds awesome. Happy to connect. You live in Lisbon?

I live in Cascais, the village near Sintra that you also have to visit!
Cascais, Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Azenhas do Mar are must go places, everything is close together you can in one day visit them all.
To visit all the palaces of Sintra you will need more a couple of days.

WOW you guys remember me when i was a kid , always exploring for spots for what i could find... well not that different nowadays ahah

We still are a bunch of kids ;) only our bodies are getting older hehe
