Blow Flies

Blow Flies

Blow Flies is the common name for Bottle Flies. There are many different species that can be found worldwide and the ones found here in the U.S. can be metallic blue, green, gold, or black. I found a blue one and a gold one.

These flies are larger than house flies and are attracted dead animal carcasses. You will find their babies on these animal carcasses, which are called maggots. Adult blow flies feed on plant sap, nectar from flowers and other sugary substances.

Look at the size of their eyes.

I was happy to capture this one rubbing its legs together.

Thanks for looking!

I like the metallic, shiny color on their backs. Insects can be pretty cool-looking up close!

Fun, informative post, and you did a wonderful job on the photography. This post deserves more credit. Thank you for sharing :)

I used to be afraid of insects, and now I love to study the way they look and learn about them by doing research. Isn't nature amazing?

Thank you so much for your kind comments and for stopping by @yayben! : )

Camera taking marvelous pictures along with your steady hand and eye

Thanks for you nice compliment Mike! I am so loving my new camera. : )
I had to laugh when you said "eye" because I only have one good one left.

Sorry to hear that. :-(

Definitely every living thing has its beauty, and although most of us do not like these insects, they do not stop being interesting and worth study them.

Its mixture of colors and shapes seems an artistic work.

Greetings @whatisnew

Perfectly said. I used to be so afraid of insects and now I really do enjoy looking at them and learning about them. Sometimes I feel like a child looking at all of nature for the first time. But, I still do not want to touch them and I will do a funny "get off of me" dance if they get on me. : )

I learned something new today regarding the blow fly. Thank you so much. 🐓🐓

I am happy to be of some help. I love it when people can learn from my posts. Thanks for stopping by @mother2chicks! : )

It takes a great deal of patience to photograph a fly! Great job!

You can say that again and so many photos just to get a few good ones. Thanks for the compliment. : )
