TOADSTOOLS

Yesterday I did a post about Earthworms and how they are beneficial to the soil which can be found here: https://steemit.com/nature/@whatisnew/earthworms

Today I will explain what Earthworms have to do with Toadstools. I mentioned that earthworms eat soil. They also eat leaf litter and take it under the ground with them. In time, the leaf litter is broken down into microscopic fungi that release nutrients into the soil. The microscopic fungi produce a "fruiting growth" and multiplies, which then emerge above ground on lawns. The toadstools are the flowers of the fungi. The same thing happens with decaying roots of standing trees or from trees that have been removed.

I found these toadstool clusters in a small butterfly park that I went to last summer.

Thanks for looking!

I like toadstools 🍄 :-)
Those are sure pretty in the green grass!
Some years we get quite a few
different kinds when it rains a lot.

These are the only ones that I have seen around here.
Can't wait for the green grass to come back! : )
