Komodo Island is in the Nusa Tenggara Islands. The island is included in the Komodo National Park area along with Rinca Island, Padar Island, Motang Island and many other small islands. Administratively, this island is located in Komodo District, West Manggarai Regency, and is directly adjacent to West Nusa Tenggara Province.

This island is a native habitat for Komodo dragons, a type of giant meat-eating lizard. On Komodo Island there are more than 2,000 Komodo dragons that live in the wild. You can see dragons that are eyeing their prey in many locations in this place. It is very important to get around with the guide for safety reasons while here.

In 1986, UNESCO established Komodo Island and other islands in the Komodo National Park area as a world heritage site because of the presence of dragons that can only be found in this region. The habitat of this endangered animal is the open air with grasslands, white sand beaches and tropical rainforests.
