The Laguna de la Restinga National Park

Hello, I want to introduce you to this herosa lagoon located on the Isla de Margarita Venezuela. I took the photos a few years ago, but I can attest that today is as beautiful as it was years ago.

The Laguna de la Restinga National Park

It was created on February 6, 1974, covers an area of 10,700 hectares, and is one of the main tourist destinations for those who travel to the island of Margarita.

In the Park, the coastal environments and the marine areas where mangroves abound dominate, while in the sector corresponding to the Macanao Peninsula the conditions of aridity are quite accentuated. One of the peculiarities of this park, and probably its main attraction, are the intricate networks of navigable canals, some very narrow, that are gradually entering the heart of dense mangrove forests, and where the apparent immobility of the waters propitiate the formation of spectacular water mirrors.

The walk through the canals is very relaxing and quite interesting, since the captain of the boat will show you the different types of mangroves present in the lagoon, teach them the oyster crops in the mangrove roots and explain how that these are reproduced and collected by small groups of local fisherwomen.

The beach of La Restinga is accessible by boat from the El Indio jetty, where boats are hired that lead visitors through the innumerable channels that carry names as evocative as: "Garden of my loves", "Canal del Kiss "or" Paradise of love ", among many others.

The beach of La Restinga is huge, it is more than twenty kilometers long, it is an oceanic beach of strong waves, but quite flat, whose sands were formed from ancient deposits of fossilized sea shells and pulverized by the constant action of the waves .

In times of heavy rains, the water in the lagoon breaks the bar in its eastern section, although it closes quickly once the drought returns. The origin of the lagoon is very similar to the one described for the Tacarigua Lagoon. The constant action of the waves accumulates on one side sand and on the other, thanks to the protection offered by the mangroves, a long spike that does not emerge from the water and serves as protection at the entrance to the lagoon
