Russell Westbrook isn't a point guard. I was a pro point guard and know what it feels like to shoot 20 shots. It felt horrible. I felt horrible. I felt like I was letting my team down. I felt like I needed to get everyone involved. The only time I shot 20 shots was in college and I was unaware of the selflessness it takes to be a great leader.
3 REASONS WHY RUSS ISN'T A GOING TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP AS A POINT GUARD
He shot the ball 43 times on the brink of elimination. He shouldn't be allowed to make 43 decisions because he isn't that high of an IQ player. He should be forced to do less with the ball in his hands. He is a shooting guard, not a point guard. He is extremely turnover prone. He loves to do too much. He may even be a small forward, my God this guy is athletic. What small forward in the league can score on him in the West? Klay? KD? I'd take my chances playing him at the 2-3, good luck chasing him up the floor.
Is Russ forced to shoot 43 times or does have the psychological makeup of a young Jordan. I mean, did Jordan even shoot that much? My God, 43 times is like playing paintball with an oozie without any worries of refill. What point guard HAS ACTUALLY shot that much in the history of championship winning point guards? I would move this guy to the two and let him be what he naturally wants to be-- one of the best open court, dynamic scoring machines in the NBA. Aka. MJ-- A young Jedi THAT WAS ONCE told he shot too much (too).
Okay, we have his position out of the way. I don't care what you say. Symmetry wise, if Paul George and Carmelo can't get open looks and take shots on his team, who will? Exactly, no one. It's not about talent, it's about symmetry. Who does he fit with then? He fits with other NBA guards that are very efficient and pass the ball up to him or can kick the ball up to a streaking Russ, drive and kick to Russ in half court, or rebound and outlet to him on the break or find him in an offense where he doesn't have to make 90% of the decisions. You'd want a Draymond-type 4-5, maybe even a Lebron to play with Russ, except Russ, you aren't are allowed to run the point. DID YOU HEAR ME? Be yourself bro. Go score thousands of points and then when you lose all confidence in yourself, pass it to a guy that is going to make efficient decisions and not turn the ball or airball bad shots when you need great possessions.
