Seems odd to be posting on a monday...and so close to my bedtime (up at 3:30 am means I'm usually in bed by 8pm).
But, as I recently received a comment on an embroidery post from @needleworkmonday I've decided to really get into the habit of working on my skills.
I had a rough day working on the Barracuda Saturday. I was planning on an easy day of tightening the rear end bolts to their specified torque settings, but it proved to be a bit of a pain. It seemed harder than it should've been, then I broke a nut ...and then a bolt head snapped off... so I moved on.
That night, we walked to a local restaurant for ice cream, even though I had a bit of a headache. I went to bed early (with the headache), got up several times (with the headache), but still went to work Sunday (with the headache). It had gotten a little worse, I tried to get through the day, but it turned into a full blown migraine. I hadn't had one in a long time and this was the worse one ever!
I left work at 11 am...slept, got up for water, slept, got up for water...etc...for the rest of the day. By about 6 pm I was finally over the headache, but this morning I still had residual dullness behind my eyes.
I tell you, I was on top of the world today having survived this migraine. That was the worst 28-ish hours of my life!
So...yesterday was a wash, but today I was determined to get some needlework done!
It took me most of the day to get the time, but I pulled out my little kit of stuff and worked on a little something.
I bought this Reader's Digest book so long ago! But I had a plan in my head to just draw a few easy designs on a sampler of sorts and practice all the stitches that caught my eye. I'd like to start on page one and go all the way though, but I also have to be honest with myself, in regards to time.
So I drew out a little acorn, a larger acorn and a couple mushrooms.
I tried a new stitch for the top of the acorn, the coral stitch.
I like knotted and chain stitches the best, I think.
A little bit of satin stitching for the stem, stem stitch for the outline of the bottom half, some back stitching to outline the top and just a couple (I guess what you'd call a darning stitch) to fill in the bottom a little.
Again, it's just quick little design to try out some new stitches, practice my basics and to keep myself working on something regularly.
The best part is it keeps me from being able to mindlessly snack!
Great work! I feel you on the crafting-keeps-you-from-snacking ...definitely me too! LOL.
I tend to try new stitches as I need them. A sampler would probably be a good idea to widen my repertoire!

I think, for me, a sampler is best because I have a hard time committing to an actual 'piece'. The only ones I've actually done have been very specific, for gifts: a logo, a couple things for hoop art, and a couple little embroidered paper pieces for cards. Otherwise, my mind is too scattered to really know where to begin.
(typing and engaging here on steemit helps keep my hands busy too)

Hello at #needleworkmonday! And I love your little acorn, it looks neat and cute and perfect for fall <3
But I am so sorry to hear you also suffer from migraines (you can visit my profile and read my whining in every second post as I suffer from them quite regularly :-D)
I am curious how you will proceed with your autum ensemble of mushrooms and acorns <3

Sometimes it is nice to know we don't suffer alone...other times, it would just be nice to not feel like our eyeballs aren't going to explode! ;)
I will certainly check out you profile @neumannsalva
Thanks for visiting!
