It is really nice to be posting again for #NeedleWorkMonday! I have missed all of my crafty friends and their work! Once again a big thank you to @muscara and @marblely for doing the weekly curations and feature posts for the whole month of November!
During my break I took some time to go through our children’s clothing. We gave a huge bag away to the thrift store and some to my great niece. I noticed my now five month old baby girl had several sleepers that were a size 3 months that she hardly got to wear. They fit her well until you got to the feet area...she had no room to move and when she stretched it became way too tight in there.
I decided I wanted to keep them longer because they are great for wearing around the house and I like the way she is covered at the top with the long sleeved button up. She can just wear socks to keep her feet warm. I came up with a way for her to wear my favorites a little longer...
Step 1

I’m not so focused on how neat I sew them because these are just house loungers. As you can see my squiggly lines almost made ruffles! 😂 Getting longer use out of your children’s clothing saves money and allows you to enjoy the ones you love longer! 😍 This repurposing also makes great sewing practice too!
I hope you enjoyed this mini tutorial and maybe you will be able to get longer use out of your baby’s clothing!
Thanks for Viewing!

What a great idea! Welcome back! My time is being taken up on projects other than sewing right now. I really want to be crocheting or sewing again soon!

Great idea! I’ll have to pass your tip on to my daughter-in-law. My son and I are tall and my grandchildren are also long and lean. It’s great to have you back. 😊

I thought you come back today and happy to see your post. My daughter got wider and longer at the same time so I didn't have chance to do this work ;) Anyway I'm happy to see you are back to NeedleworkMonday!! Party!

Great to see your sewing with mom lessons paying off. Great idea for extending the life of baby clothes (I never realised there was such a huge trade in them until I started visiting charity shops - baby clothes seem to fit for two minutes) and I like the little ruffle look at the end of the legs.

Hey @shanibeer! Thank you so much! I’m so glad you like the
accidentalintended ruffle! 😅 Yes the lessons are really paying off and I am starting to find things to tinker with lol. I do love the fact I can do small sewing jobs on my own instead of taking them to my mom. Of course zippers and harder things like that I still have yet to learn. Yes baby clothes literally only fit for two minutes. I think I will start consigning this year as well! There is always such a need for baby clothing.Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

A big hello and so nice to have you back again.
Your idea is genius: so easy and practical. The sleeper looks so cute and it would be sad if you have to give them away. This trick to cut of feet is clever and your sewing lessons are paying out :-D
Perhaps you could crochet matching socks for this sleeper <3

Hello to you and thank you so much! It’s nice to be back.
Thank you! I must admit it does feel great to be able to come up with my own ideas and being able to execute them...especially with sewing. Yes the lessons are really paying off. They have definitely escalated my interest in learning.
I love that idea!!! Only if I had the extra time...I am working on several Fall hat orders. Maybe I can squeeze a pair or two in lol! 😄😉

I think this approach to clothes is very wise. it always makes sense to change something in clothes to prolong her life and save money for something else. great!

Absolutely! Being apart of this community and seeing so many Upcycle ideas has got my brain going to find ways to do the same. I love that my daughter can now wear these a little longer.
Thanks Tala! 😊

This is great upcycling, @crosheille - and when baby outgrows this one too, you could always make a memory teddy bear with the fabric 😃

A memory teddy is such a great idea. My mom and I were just talking about fabric bears!!! 😉👌🏽 Thank you!!

5 months??? Oh my!! How is she already 5 months old?? They grow so fast. This is such a great idea. I've never though of doing that! You could use a serger too and that would be easy. I've used a serger once and it seemed to work well, but I didn't really know what I was doing. Ha! Another idea is to just cut it with those rotary cutters really straight and then just let them roll up naturally with no hem. My MIL wears tshirts that she cuts the hem, neckline, and sleeves out of and they actually look cute rolled up like that. If they're 100% cotton, they'll roll up nicely. I had her cut me a polyester blend tshirt and it doesn't roll well, but I'm cool with that. I hate sewing hems! ;)

Crazy huh? Doesn’t seem it should be so, she’ll be half a year on the 13th! 😫
Thank you! I was just so sad that she only got to wear them for two seconds lol...I said there has to be a way to change that.
I LOVE your ideas! My sewing machine has a serger but I have no idea how to use it. My mom said that will be in one of the lessons lol. I am really excited about having one and look forward to using it. I think I will try one of the cotton ones with the rotary. To be honest if I can switch up that would be great...sewing hems aren’t my favorite either.
Thanks so much for your ideas! 😘 I hope you and your family are well ~

That's such a good idea, kids, especially babies, grow out of their clothes so fast!! And being a mad catter, I like your favorite too, lol.

What an ingenious idea! Reuse, recycle, repurpose is something close to my heart, so I think this is fantastic!
Great job and thanks for sharing.

As an "as far as I possibly can" zero waster, I always try to upcycle... throwing things away drives me nuts, lol.
