Vulcan Mittens

in needleworkmonday •  6 years ago

Star Trek fans will enjoy this pattern. I chose science blue (a color that remained the same for the original series and the next generation series) for these mittens. The right hand is divided to enable the wearer to make the Live Long and Prosper hand gesture. I plan to make the left mitten just regular human style. There is also a chart for duplicate stitching a Star Trek emblem on the back of the mitten.

I rarely buy patterns, preferring to do my own thing with photos and graph paper or to adapt a design from one of my many knitting books, but in this case I thought the designer earned some support. You can get your own copy here: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/564421087/pattern-for-live-long-and-prosper

No affiliation, just appreciate this designer's creativity.

The mittens will coordinate with this warm slouch hat I made a couple of winters ago:

This was a free pattern I found on Ravelry. It is on this blog: http://nicolelorenz.blogspot.com/2009/05/scottys-hat-pattern.html

Hahaha, that's awesome.

What a coincidence - yesterday I choose something similar for one of my next projects: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/live-long-and-prosper
I think they will be great for riding my bicycle - you can use the brake etc. better than with mittens but the fingers get less cold than in gloves where all fingers are separate. I'm considering making a "buttonhole" for the index finger and thumb for operating the phone...

@muscara and @fiberfrau: if you both start to knit a Star Trek uniform, let me now... I will send you my size 😆🙏🙏🙏

I just downloaded the pattern--looks simpler than the one I'm using, so I will try it next. I downloaded in German and English. I love that the German word for "mitten" is "hand shoe" :) German is my favorite language after English.

And the buttonhole idea is brilliant! Trying to see that in my mind now--I need to sketch it and graph it to see how it would work.

Spock will appreciate your efforts... :) Live Long & Prosper... I like the idea of supporting others... it is great to see your creativity and spirit.. i am always waiting to see the next pattern! :)

Dif-tor heh smusma! or so... :-D Love these!!! I always was so in love with Mr Spock, so these mittens are perfect. You got the right blue they used in the original series. Right now, I rewatched the Archer Enterprise serials... it helped immensely with the flu.

Yes, this is the lighter blue like Spock and McCoy wore. In TNG the doctor had a darker blue.

Look at that its awsome handy. Like the little needles for knitting

Great projects. The talent you have is awesome.
