Childhood Memories - Bigining of my Needlework Journey!

in needleworkmonday •  5 years ago

Hi Friends... This colorful cloth with beautiful embroidery work is about 48 years old! I was 12 years old then, and was in my eighth' grade!(8th standard).

While searching for something else in one of my cupboards I got this today!.

After the completion of my seventh grade, I was joined to a new school. I Was happy that there was a very talented, well trained needle work teacher in that school.

We had an option to choose from the subjects like gardening, weaving and needlework, and I choose the last one.

At first we all were given this 2'x2' of white cloth and our teacher taught us how to stich different types of embroidery. Now I have even forgotten the names of few stitches in this.

This was just a bigining! As we dint had TVs or Computers in those days, the girl children from every houses were taught to stitch something or the other, right from her childhood.

After this in my 9th and tenth grade the same teacher had trained us how to make our clothes, frocks, skirts, blouses, and other things. Even today I am stitching all my clothes myself and thus I could save a lot of money throughout my life.

I am very much grateful to our needlework teacher Mrs. Sundari Bai, who is now 85 years old!

With much love and regards, @geetharao...

48 year old memory! It's incredible ma'am. Is that teacher still alive? Does she know that you are keeping this needle work still intact? She will be very happy to see this now.

Yes, she is there! may be around 85 years now! And she knows that I am still stitching all my clothes on my own. She is very proud of me... Her place is about 2hours ' journey from our place. I'll surely show her this cloth as well as this post on Steemit, when I get a chance to meet her. :)

Although you chose just one subject, you're good at all three - gardening, weaving and needlework!

But it's bad that you forgot the names of some stitches you did just 48 years back! You deserve some punishment from your teacher for this. Meet her and ask her about those names again ...and may be take some classes again 😜

If with 12 years you did things as beautiful and delicate as those, now with more age and experience you must be doing wonderful things with sewing.

Thank you so much for the comments @rosargelisperez 🙏

Wonderful! I am also thankful to my mother and others who taught me needlework when I was young.. It is a gift I still enjoy, creating things with my hands. You did lovely work even as a child.
