Filet crochet jumper - #needleworkmonday

in needleworkmonday •  7 years ago

Its been a while since i posted anything new. Work has been very busy, so ive had little time to crochet and when i have picked up a hook ive been working on this jumper. Altogether its taken about 3 days to make, so much quicker than the skull one i made a month or so back! Since i finished the last one ive been asked to make 3 more and seeing as they are so easy to make i couldnt say no :)

This particular lady wanted a plain jumper with no skull motif so was very quick to work up. I wanted to make something for her because she has begun stocking some of my items in her local shop, so starting to make some yarn money :) nice to have some work appreciated :D

Apologies for the poor back drop! I really want to get a dressmakers dummy to display clothing properly. The main body is a simple double crochet, chain 2 repeat to make the squares.

The collar is a few rows of single crochet followed by a row of half double crochet - keeps a nice shape but has a bit of stretch in it.

The cuffs are worked in the same way as the neckline. The hem is super easy - rows of single crochet worked into back loops only to give the awesome ribbed look!

The jumper is seamed with single crochet, so there is minimal sewing involved and a great starter project if you want to branch into clothing but are put off by piecing together!

Another nice one!! I can see me wearing this with a nice shirt underneath with my cuffed jeans and ankle boots for the Fall!!! 😍 Congratulations on making a profit from your hard work, way to go!!!

These come out so nice for such a simple pattern! And so adaptable - i tried to make this one smaller so changed the hook size and the squares came out a bit tighter. Thanks, yes the shop has been a bit of a god send! Where we stay is a big tourist area, and they love the handmade things, so its been quite easy to shift some things. We're also quite central for a lot of big craft fairs etc - ill be able to quit the day job sometime soon and crochet full time 😎 its the dream lol

I really like the size of the squares. Wow that is such a blessing! I hope your dream comes true!!!!! What a nice opportunity for you. 😃😍

It's great! I want to try a sweater/top with sleeves one day. I'm always scare the arms won't work out right.

I know, thats always my biggest worry - this pattern is very easy to keep track of the right number of stitches so both arms are the same, and you join onto the sleeve hole marked out during the body pieces and continue crocheting so no sewing on at the end :) i tried a few other jumper patterns and always got lost at the arms or the sewing so this is a perfect pattern for me :)

Do you happen to have a link to the pattern? 😬

Congrats on starting to make yarn money. It is always a great feeling to be able to make money off of something that your enjoy.

Did you work top-down or bottom-up and did you start with a chain or foundation row? I love the ribbing at the bottom; I did not know that you could do that with crochet. You have almost inspired me to try making a piece of clothing more fitted than a shawl :)

Hi @thuban, the sweater is worked bottom up. The ribbing is crocheted first, then a foundation row of single crochet worked down the long side of the rib, then onto the main filet pattern. This way everything is crocheted together from the start and its on!y weaving in ends later :) front and back and worked separatly and seamed with single crochet down the sides and along shoulders. Neckline is then crocheted onto the space. Yarn is joined for sleeves and filet pattern continued.

I was surprised by how good the ribbing came out! Such a simple method and looks like it took a lot more time! To start i chain 13, then single crochet in each chain (12 sc). Every row from then is sc in backloops - so straightforward :) give it a shot!

Very cleverly done, indeed. It really does look more complicated. I might have to put this in my queue to give it a try; at the very least I need to add that ribbing to my repertoire. Thanks!
