Yes, I'm talking about the later stages of making a top-down cardigan.
If the early stages of creating the yoke are marked by managing ever increasing numbers of stitches in a row, each taking half an hour to complete, the later stages of knitting the sleeves are like working with a set of unruly bagpipes!
It looks so innocent, doesn't it, sitting there quietly?
It's like bread dough or one of those ventriloquist's dummies with a life and mind of its own. However neatly you arrange the knitting and its three sets of circular needles and two balls of yarn on your lap, it will contrive to slide off your knee. Especially if you're using a slippy slidey shiny yarn.
The clacking noise of the circular needles (I'm using birch ones) and generally having to arrange them so they are not digging into you (or anyone else brave enough to share the sofa) or skewering your knitting or getting tangled in the several balls of yarn, all adds to the bagpipes effect.
Having said that, this is the fastest garment I have ever knitted, with only the ends to sew in and buttons to attach. I'll be posting pictures of the finished item soon with a review of the process - bits that worked better than others and what I would like to change in the next one I make.
I did wear it for half-an-hour last night to see how it felt and whether I wanted to make any changes before finishing off. It is lovely and warm (the snuggiest, lightest cardigan I have), and the style is a cross between chanel jacket and boyfriend cardigan. That is, chic with a relaxed fit :)
I think I must get a large flat basket, big enough to hold a growing garment, that will sit on my knee comfortably, and with a low lip so it doesn't get in the way of knitting. Or perhaps I should crochet a soft container using one of @marblely's designs?
Hitting 8000SP! Yay!
I'm really pleased with this. Although it's not a landmark like Double Dolphin (10,000SP), for some reason it feels significant, maybe because I thought it would take me much longer to reach this stage.
I've been buying steadily, a small amount every week since becoming a dolphin last summer. Sometimes, I've been lucky, the price has been very low and I've gained a lot of SP for very little. Other weeks the SP has been much lower. This week, as the price dipped below 30c again, I bought a few more, in even smaller amounts!
My original plan was to reach 10,000SP by the end of August and I'd set my buying programme to achieve that. Possibly I will get there a little sooner.
Why am I buying and powering up? Because I think Steem has a great future. There is lots going on and that can be disconcerting, but for me, this is typical of early start up stages. It would be more worrying if some of these things were not taking place. Challenge and debate will lead to a much more robust and sustainable blockchain.
It's definitely like bread dough I see it hehe, also congrts on getting to 8000 SP you should indeed be very happy about that milestone. I would also say reaching 10.000 SP would make double the dolphin status lol, I just hit 4700 so looking forward to reaching dolphin soon @shanibeer so thanks for the supprt.

Congrats on the 8K SP @shanibeer! I think you will get to 10K soon enough :) I have faith in Steem too.. Hoping it will propel some day soon.
Can't wait to see the topdown cardigan. You work them so well. I still haven't gotten to try it yet. Hopefully soon :) Which container design are you thinking of?

I had in my head the heart one? But I think I need it to be oval - I think you made a lovely little bag with an oval base?

Thank you, I'm very pleased with both :)
I finished the knitting bits last night, but it was too late to write a post and even now I can't get my phone to send an email with the progress pictures I have taken so I can post them! Grrr! The cardigan is so cosy I can see I'm going to be living in it :)

I applaud your efforts with the sweater and your Steem Power milestone. I am anxiously awaiting your post of the final garment. I hope that you have been documenting your process because it really helps me to see the big picture. Congratulations

I posted some videos that I found helpful - I know you've been reading and researching lots about knitting. I've got some other links to post ... soon (hopefully next Monday) ... :)
Are you enjoying your knitting?

Yes I am. Once the stress related to I might drop a stitch was gone, I started to relax and just enjoy the experience. I plan on doing a future post comparing my crochet experiences and skills to my knitting skills. It might help other crafters make connections.

Thank you :)
I will try and take some photos when I'm wearing it :) I'm not good at managing all the technology and a nice setting and modelling! But I think even before it is finished, with all the ends hanging down, it still looks good. I want to block it as well, something strange happened towards the bottom of the body.

I am always taking notes from you knitting needlers!! I can imagine the garment sliding down as you knit, especially if it’s with silkier yarn. I think making a container would be a good solution. I’m looking forward to the pictures of this one!! Chic and relaxed is my style! 😎
Wow Congrats to you! Reaching 8000 SP is definitely something to celebrate for! This really is a great time to invest. I like your thinking about the blockchain. I feel the same way. I believe it has really great potential and we will see it improve and improve. Being apart of something so big and wonderful at the beginning stages, we are bound to see the flaws and the needed fix ups. Either way I’m here to enjoy myself and the people...making the crypto is a bonus!!! 😄

It made me laugh so much slipping and sliding on my lap. It did remind me a bit of a small toddler, too, the way they just wriggle off your lap, you're constantly having to re-adjust your hold! Chic and relaxed might be my imagination, but it feels delightful to wear.
I agree about enjoying yourself and the people!

Congrats on the 8000SP, it is tempting to get more but I have been finding my inner self saying 'diversify' lately. I got some Etherium last week and shifted it onto my Ledger and it's staying there!

Yes, I know what you mean, but right now I have bigger fish to fry and Steem fits the bill :)
I may diversify later, partly as a learning experience, but one thing at a time.
