AMIGURUMI: Step by step elaboration of Frida's Key ring

in needleworkmonday •  6 years ago
Hello, dear members of all the communities, welcome back to my blog, continuing with #amigurumis , today I want to present to you the steps of the elaboration of Frida, but first I want to make a short biography of her. Frida Kahlo, born on July 6, 1907 in Coyoacán, south of Mexico City, was a most relevant Mexican painter of the 20th century.

What I want to highlight from her biography is that she was one of the first painters to express in her work the feminine identity from her own point of view, rejecting the vision of the feminine, presenting in her works some features considered masculine, among them exaggerating her eyebrows and highlighting her moustache. Being a feminist of the 80's, she liked to wear traditional costumes, long colored dresses and exotic jewelry. Here I am going to present some of those features, among them the slightly exaggerated eyebrows and the flowers on her head.

We are going to elaborate a keychain with the head of Fida in crochet, immediately our materials that were used and the step by step of the elaboration.

Materials and Abbreviation

Materials Abbreviation
Needle (1.45mm or 3) ch=Chain Stitch
Crochet thread (light brown, dark brown, black, green, yellow, fuscia, orange) sc= single crochet (low point)
Scissors st= slip stitch
Wadding inc= Increase
dec=decrease

Frida's Head

We will work in spiral as we have done in the head of all #amigurumis. Performing in each lap the following steps:

  • Lap 1. 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 points).

  • Lap. 2 sc for each point (12)

  • Lap 3. 1 sc, 1 inc (18)

  • Lap 4. 2 sc, 1 inc (24)

  • Lap 5. 3 sc, 1 inc (30)

  • Lap 6. 4 sc, 1 inc (36)

  • Lap 7-11. 1 sc for each point (36).

At the end of lap 11 we'll embroider the face. From the center of the weave we are going to count up to the lap 7 and 8, there we place the first eye and the other one we place it in the same direction to six points of separation.

The eyes you can place of security or to make them in crochet, as it did not have, make the eyes to him of the following way: a magic ring of 6 sc, and in the following round it makes 2 sc by each point, to close with sliding point, leaving thread to sew, of this form makes two wheel, to see the image:

With black thread, we do the eyebrows, two lap above the eye. Make the eyelashes. You can detail it in the following image.

Continuing with the head, we make the following lap

  • Lap 12. 4 sc, 1 dec (30)
  • Lap 13. 3 sc, 1 dec (24)
  • Lap 14. 2 sc, 1 dec (18)
    Fill
  • Lap 15. 1 sc, 1 dec (12)
  • Lap 16. 6 dec

For Hair

  • Lap 1. 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 points).
  • Lap. 2 sc for each point (12)
  • Lap 3. 1 sc, 1 inc (18)
  • Lap 4. 2 sc, 1 inc (24)
  • Lap 5. 3 sc, 1 inc (30)
  • Lap 6. 4 sc, 1 inc (36)
  • Lap 7. 5 sc, 1inc (42)
  • Lap 8. 1 sc for each point (42).

After the turn 8, we make a sliding stitch, we turn the fabric, we make a chain and in the second point we make a low stitch (sc), so we continue with low stitches until two points before finishing, in those two points we make a decrease, again we turn the tissue and make the same procedure, a chain, in the second point we begin with the low stitches (sc) and decrease when missing two stitches, we make one more turn with the same procedure, which would be the last turn. For this last lap we make a chain and low stitch in each stitch, we leave threads to sew.

Too adorable! What a lovely keyring and you really captured Frida so well! I love the flowers on her hair, the colours that you picked are very reminiscent of Frida's colour palette for her paintings :D Very cute!
