Hello everyone,

I am Sovannrath also I got master's degree scholarship of Erasmus Mundus from 2010 to 2012. I finished my Engineer’s Diploma from Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) and then pursuit my study for Master’s Degree in Politecnico di Torino (POLITO), the first rank or second rank high educational institute in Italy.

I do appreciate the phrase “You don’t become who I am by being afraid or timid,”, as it was just matched to what happened to me in the procedure of my EM application. Actually when EM cooperated with my home institute ITC, there were no Master’s degree scholarship applicable for ITC students; thus there were only the possibility to do an exchange. At first, I applied for the exchange program; but I realized that I am going to graduate by the time that I was going to start the exchange; it means that I was going to waste my time doing an exchange. An idea jump to my head, “How about asking EM for Master?” I decided to write to Mette Svensson, an EM Coordinator, to ask if I can apply for the Master’s Degree instead of Exchange Program. Let’s guest what is her reply?

I got green light from her! Cheers! But she said that unless the cooperator in my home university ITC let me apply for it too. I went to a deputy director of ITC; who cooperated the EM EuroAsia project. He said that it is not possible boy; get back; there is no place for Master’s Degree for Cambodian applicants at this time. I was begging him like a kid begging for a toy in a mall, until he told me to go to another deputy director for the permission to apply. God was on my side, the other deputy director permitted me to apply for master just in a word! Let do it my boy! I was ohhing and ahhing with the permission, just like how you feel when you ask someone to marry you; and she confirm in a minute.

With many mails written and reply, with communication efforts; finally my application was accepted by POLITO for Master’s Degree on Computer Engineer. This effort sketch a new perspective for my future; which I am so appreciate to many people who had put my requests into consideration. You people, change a cell of the world!

With this small message, I would like all of you to improve your communication skill and don’t being timid. Applying for a scholarship is not a timid thing; you are investing in your future. I will come up with more articles about my graduate school in POLITO later.

Have a nice weekend

Sovannrath,
