Identity on blockchain seems like one of the few applications that actually make use of the technology.
As the online market continues to increase, the way we carry out our day to day tasks has also changed. Services and socialising have shifted to the digital world. From checking bank accounts, online shopping to booking flights, they all require the constant need to verify our identity.
Inputting our data online opens us to risks of data security and identity theft. Therefore, the need to provide a secure identification tool is becoming more critical. The idea of using a trustless, robust, secure and private blockchain technology for identity storage and verification is an obvious one with some countries (Estonia) even starting an electronic residency evidence, blockchain based voting system and launching an estcoin.
