•I write for those women who do not speak, for those who do not have a voice because they were so terrified, because we are taught to respect fear more than ourselves. We’ve been taught that silence would save us, but it won’t.—Audre Lorde•

SYNOPSIS---> Three generations of Palestinian-American Women are torn between individual desire and their strict Arab culture in this powerful debut - a heart-wrenching story of love, intrigue, courage, and betrayal that will resonate with women from all background, giving voice to the silenced and agency to the oppressed.

📖
A Woman Is No Man is a book I don't exactly know how to feel about it. The book wasn't a really great read to me but the issue been tackled was an important one and a eyeopener. I'm glad a story like this, is been written reminding the world that issues like this happens and also importantly giving a voice to the voiceless.
The story (from the characters perspectives) talks about the life of Palestinian-American Women (Deya, Fareeda and Sarah), their suppression vulnerability, generational abuse, struggles and pain through a culture that misogyny and patriarchy prevails. Also showing what it truely means to be a woman in their world.

📖

I got hooked up while starting this, then alone the line I was angry.
When I thought I've read worse stories that portraits misogyny, I got to discover that they are some way worse.
The anger I felt reminds me of Headscarves and Hymens by Mona Eltahawy ( I took a pause on that book).
I wasn't happy with the low voice and most times no voice given to the characters.
🎴Talking about the writing, the repetition of words was obvious.
At some piont I felt like dropping it but then, (let's call it suspense, since I can't place it) got me. I wanted to know how it all goes down, especially on Deya's story.
📖At the end I am glad Rum published this story and I would recommend it not because it's a master piece but rather an eye opening book.
The issues ranges from (domestic abuse/violence, early and arranged marriage, culture, sexism, bigotry, denial of freedom).

The candle light in this photo is for those women who went through the pain of not bearing a male child, when the anger should be focus on the men (Biology explains why).
📖 This read, now makes me see why I need to keep talking about one's happiness should be a priority.
If marriage is going to take that away from you, then fuck it. It's better been single and happy than been in an unhappy marriage.
