Nepal, a country that sums up Himalayan beauty along with cultural, architectural and geographical diversities. Sitting in the lap of Mother Nature, Nepal takes the visitor to the shrine of Buddhism to the views of the Himalayan Glaciers. Nepal was also listed in the National Geographic’s best destination to visit in 2016.
Luring by the call of the mountains and seeking to climb or trek in the Himalayas, the number of visitors is seen every year. Mostly visitors are intrigued by the culture and the famous city of Kathmandu hoping to find some spiritual awakening. Hence, Nepal can be adrenaline adventure, a cultural eye opener, or a life changing experience, depending on the itinerary and mind-set of the traveler.Due to the major earthquake in 2015, many attractions of Nepal suffered from severe damage and demolition. Although, I've made efforts to write about some major attractions.
Kathmandu
Kathmandu, the largest and capital city of Nepal, is also renowned as the city of temples in entire world. As the city deals with many historic events, the decaying buildings in the heart of the city are a contrast to the lively atmosphere that permeates the streets. The smell of incense wafts from the stores while street sellers push their wares, and people go about their daily lives, all against a backdrop of historic temples and carved statues. The highlight of Kathmandu has long been Durbar Square, the largest of the palace squares in the three royal cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Bhaktapur
The third of the Royal Cities just lies outside of the Kathmandu. In ancient period, this city was the major trade route between the neighbouring countries. Like Kathmandu city, Bhaktapur also holds many history related to power, assassination and conspiracy. Mostly inhabited by the Hindu’s, this place is also enlisted in the UNESCO’s world heritage site.Chitwan National Park
Apart from the hiking and intrigue of Kathmandu, Chitwan National Park is the best place to experience the different side of Nepal. Filled with biodiversity, the Park is a place for wildlife viewing and a safari- type atmosphere. There’s also good facility foe the accommodation to the tourists around the park. Situated as the common home for rhinos, Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, deer, 500 species of birds and many other critters, this Park is truly a paradise for ornithologists.
- Mt. Everest and Himalayan trekking
Of course, we all know about the highest mountain on the planet and the place where it is situated. The summit of Mt. Everest reaches 8848 meters (29,028 feet) from the sea level. The first legendary ascent of the peak was done by Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and the Sherpa Tensing Norgay in 1953. Hats off to their tremendous efforts which made them successful. Since that time, many more have summited the mountain, but far more trek the route to Everest Base Camp simply for a glimpse of the peak far above.
For those not looking to trek to Mount Everest but still wanting to see the mountain, it is possible to see it on clear days from the hill town of Nagarkot near Kathmandu. Hotel staff will knock on guests' doors on clear mornings if Everest is visible. This might be the lazy traveler's best chance of seeing the world's highest peak.
