Dear White People

I might be a little late to the party on this one however, I still need to express my opinion about this Netflix series "Dear White People. The show has one season and is set on a college campus where during the civil rights era black students "segregated them selves" and created an all black dorm. The writers took a lot of time creating characters that do not fit one stereotype of "black collage student" but designed characters to fit all genres of students that are also black.

Ok awesome, I thought this will be fun. I'll get a modern youthful look into race relations in 2017 created and written by people who are in their 30s, my age group. Well I was wrong. Very quickly with in the first episode it was clear. This is not about race in America this is a feminist platform. Race is touched on in the most cliche of ways. While sexism is examined in a smart and clever way.

In one of the episodes all the students of this dorm are gathered to watch one of their favorite T.V. programs. This program depicts a black woman serving as an assistant to a white man. The power dynamic is even deeper than that. The white man is also the president of the United States. The dialog between the two consists of the female assistant advising the male president because he is an idiot man baby and with out her he would be lost. Then out of no where there sexual attraction becomes clear and he demands she preform oral sex on him. Yeah great for a T.V. drama. The onlooking students are broken into two camps the men vs women. While this is happening the crowd of students the men cheer when the president demands oral sex while the female students groan and boo. The scene ends with the lady assistants clone father enters the room. Funny I agree. I am not saying this show isn't funny. With in a few episode of this scene two of the main characters are engaged in a sexual encounter with one another, where in this love scene the male character is preforming oral sex on the female character. My point is this. Now while the show depicted oral sex preformed by women as borderline sexual assault and demoralizing, the writers also depict oral sex preformed by men on women as empowering for the female characters.

Dear White People is high jacking the very real issues of race relations of present day to push a feminist and maybe even homosexual agenda, under the guise of addressing racism. Please do not misunderstand my intent here. I am not here to be little feminist or homosexul issues. I just wanted to watch a witty show based around racial tensions what I got was totally different.

Dear White People, not as good as A Different World

I agree with this post. I feel as if the LGBTQ community exploits racial issues in order to shoehorn the legitimacy of gay persecution. Followed.

I feel ya bro.
