Handmaids Tale, what. The. Actual. Fuck.

Some of the lighter topics addressed in Margaret Atwoods The Handmaids Tale include but aren't limited to:
Systematic rape protected and encouraged by the system.
Child stealing and indoctrination into a totalitarian belief system designed to benefit the select few at the cost of the many.
Mass executions of intellectuals, homosexuals, and believers in any faith other than that sanctioned by the state.
Seriously though Netflix, this show is fucking amazing. I have rarely cared so much about characters, or felt genuine fear and concern over a TV show, but this one gets me.
Netflix has definitely been killing it lately. Narcos and Stranger Things kept me glued to the screen (of course I was stoned off my ass in Medellin Colombia through all three seasons of Narcos, but I'm sure it was awesome).
The Handmaids Tale is set in a not so far off dystopia future where most of the world is suffering from a mysterious infertility. Those women who have the misfortune of being fertile are hinted down, rounded up, and turned into sex slaves for the elites to include in weird threesomes with their wives holding the poor girls head.
It's a totally fucked up concept but Atwood definitely hits on some major issues facing the world today.
There are more people in chains of slavery today than at any other time in history. Many of them are women and children.
Rape has gone from being an horrific act performed on one human being by another, sometimes with consequences lasting a lifetime to an acceptable occurrence. Like it's OK to rape some one or some shit.
Women around the world are systematically oppressed through education (or lack thereof) violence, rape, media, and language (yes language. Do you know a male equivalent to words like bitch, cunt, whore, slut, I etc.?)
So while I'm sure this show triggers loads of people in lots of different ways, it's a powerful tool for opening the conversation about some horrific shit that should probably be talked about more and more often.
