Does the title make any sense?
No it doesn't, it came a dutch satarical show that also brought you America First, the Netherlands second. Which started a hype.
I said it doesn't make sense, well that is what I hope. But how did the Netherlands went from a republic in 1815 to a kingdom?
Some guy, just randomly set okay I am your king now, your taxes belong to me.
And now in 2017 200 years later people dress up in orange to celebrate someone who basically said okay I am your Pharao now.
This is just an outdated system.
So here is a piece that glows it together for you : https://socialstudies1415.wordpress.com/2015/03/25/a-farao-in-the-netherlands/
"A FARAO IN THE NETHERLANDS?
On the 16th of march in 1815 Willem I crowned himself as the king of the Netherlands. And made the Netherlands an hereditary monarchy. So the crown is passed on within the royal family. So he is the reason we’ve this royal family now.
Arjen Lubach
A cabaret/television presentator, Arjen Lubach, thought this was pretty weird, because the only thing that is different about the royal family that they’ve Willem I as ancestor. In addition to that this ancestor of them didn’t even do something special, he just said he was the king and everybody just agreed. Therefore this Arjen Lubach thought if he can crown himself why can’t I do it.
And it turns out he can by a citizen’s initiative, thus he crowned himself as the first farao of the Netherlands in his initiative. It has even come so far that it has to be discussed in the second chamber, because more than 40.000 people signed for it.
He has even made a song, which has to be played for when he arrives somewhere.
With this initiative he wants to make a statement, that it actually is ridiculous that we have this royal family right now. And the don’t even need to do anything to stay the royal family of the Netherlands.
I really like it that he has crowned himself as ‘farao der Nederlanden’, because with it he is making a good statement in a funny way. And it is a huge succes, because apparently there are many more people who think the same. While he reached the minimum of 40.000 signs within one day.
I agree with him too, because just like him I think it’s pretty weird that the royal family we have now, has this power for the reason that a guy crowned himself as king 200 years ago. Which wasn’t even voted for or something, he just said he was the king of the Netherlands and the people accepted it. I already find it difficult to believe that these people back then even accepted him as a king, but the most ridiculous I find that we still accept it."
And then we didn't dive into the royals their history.
Let's just say it's not in their favour.
Here is the orginal content
Something from Arjen as well, about the royals history.
