MELBOURNE - Switzerland's men's singles Roger Federer advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open 2018. In the third round, Federer beat Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-2, 7-5 and 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday (20/1/2018).
Federer is able to control the game with a fast tempo and some measurable forehand. The world number two was able to keep his distance with Gasquet to take the first set with a score of 6-2.
Furthermore, Federer get tight resistance from Gasquet although he could reach the second set with a score of 7-5. In the decider, Federer kept his game consistent and closed the match 6-4 in the third set.
Meanwhile, Serbian Novak Djokovic also followed in Federer's footsteps to secure a place in the fourth round of the Australian Open 2018. In the third round, Djokovic won over Spaniard Albert Ramos Vinolas 6-2, 6-3 and 6- 3.
Then, seeded Austrian five, Dominic Thiem also qualified for the fourth round. Earlier, he beat Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 6-2 and 7-5.
With the result, Federer will face Hungary's Marton Fucsovis to fight for a quarter-final ticket. While Djokovic will meet South Korean youngster Chung Hyeon and Thiem will play American Tennys Sandgren.
