Officials Have Revived a Severed Pig's Brain, offering both hope and concern.

in neuroscience •  7 years ago

Neurosurgeons have managed to revive severed pig's brains for a period of 36 hours. No pigs were harmed during this process, as the brains were donated from a local slaughterhouse. The officials have stated that this process can be replixated with other animals and that doing so with humans would not be much more difficult to achieve. This would open the door to many possibilities. On the other side of this, ethical implications and questions are being addressed. The example issued being a human's brain with no contact with anything or anyone external to it, while awaiting a transfer or a transplant. The author has suggested that being in such a state could potentially be worse than death.
