Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi is an upcoming American film of the genre known as space opera, to be released on December 15, 2017. It was written and directed by Rian Johnson3 and is the eighth installment of the Star Wars saga chronologically ( according to the main story), and the eighth according to the premiere date. It is also the second film in the Star Wars saga to be produced after the retirement of George Lucas, who still collaborates in it as a consultant.
The director of the seventh episode, J. J. Abrams, becomes executive producer, along with Tom Karnowski.
The main cast of the film is composed of the actors Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Andy Serkis, with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels and Peter Mayhew returning to the roles they had already played in episodes previous, in addition to the actors Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran adding new roles. Jimmy Vee will be the interpreter of R2-D2, because the original actor, Kenny Baker, passed away in 2016.
