I'm new to steem and just getting started to learn it's functionality
As a long time crypto enthusiast, i've been following the technology for a while, and always looking for new blockchain based applications.
Steem looks to be a great tool for bloggers and i'm excited to start exploring it!
As i understand it right now, it's a sort of reddit, but with money instead of upvotes, correct?
One thing i don't get yet is where the money comes from that is given as reward for votes. Is it mined, or should i deposit a certain amount of funds first before allocating it to my likes?

I would say it's almost like reddit but long form unique content like in a normal blog. You will do better with original content than quick memes overall. Welcome to Steemit!

Welcome Bytas! The simple answer is that the money reward for blogging and voting is newly minted at regular intervals. The first minting will July 4th. Much like mining Bitcoin results in new rewards (Bitcoin) being minted and distributed to the lucky miner, Steem Power and Steem Dollars will be minted and distributed to active content creators(bloggers) and curators(voters).
