Trump Pardons (Posthumously) Boxer Jack Johnson

in new •  7 years ago

I didn't know much about Jack Johnson.
30 year old Heavyweight Champion of the World.

Johnson vs Burns
Sydney Heavyweight Championship where the police stopped the fight and forced recording to stop.

A black guy not playing the role he was meant to play for the times.
An arrogance and matching ability that gave him a lauded lifestyle.
Wanting to become Heavy Weight Champion, but not being given the chance.

Momentum of change provided an opportunity to change history.

"I lived as a man."
"I kidded him in a nice way, but he used a whole sort of other language."

And a documentary...

I love watching those old black and white videos. The characters, the style of boxing, and the crowds all crammed into quickly put together arenas.

I found it interesting and I hope you do too.
