Nintendo also announced Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for the 3DS line of consoles. These are new versions of last year's Sun and Moon games, with an alternative storyline and new pocket monsters to catch and train. News of a new Pokémon game could boost interest in Nintendo's new verison of their dedicated handheld console, the 2DS XL, and will come as further confirmation of the company's promise to continue development for the machine. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will release on 17 November 2017.

Pokémon fans will also be able to play classic games Gold and Silver on the 3DS Virtual Console when they are released on 22 September alongside Pokkén.
The Pokémon stream was also as interesting for what wasn't announced. Many fans were expecting the unveiling of the rumoured Pokémon Stars, which is supposedly a version of Sun and Moon made for Switch. With the Switch's portability, you would expect a dedicated Pokémon game is in the works. But it looks like we will have to wait a little longer to catch a first glimpse of it.
