The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) is going to appeal hearing in the High Court on Wednesday to increase the sentence of the prisoner Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.
The High Court bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim was present on the bench on Tuesday. The court said, yesterday the matter will come to the verdict
ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan said in the first light, "The tomorrow application will be in the work schedule. Hopefully tomorrow will be a hearing. '
Khaleda Zia was given five-year rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust case and five years of rigorous imprisonment for Tarique Rahman, including 10 years in jail. All six accused were sentenced to a fine of 20 million and 71 thousand 643 rupees. Since then Khaleda Zia is in jail.
According to ACC's lawyer, the main accused in the case Khaleda Zia He was sentenced by the judicial court for five years. But his associates and other accused were sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment. In the same case where the fellow accused have been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, the main accused does not approve the five year jail sentence. The arguments of the judicial court ruling have been challenged.
It is mentioned in the petition that considering the age and social condition, Khaleda Zia's five years imprisonment is not acceptable under the law. The ACC filed this petition on the High Court on Sunday noon after 1 month and 17 days of the verdict of the judicial court.
