A record number of us states had new confirmed cases in a single day last week
A record number of new cases were confirmed in a single day in several US states last week, CNN reported Tuesday.
The United States reported at least 69,000 new confirmed COVID-19 cases a day in the past week, the report said, citing data from Johns Hopkins University. That was the highest number of new confirmed cases in a single day since July. Ten states reported the highest number of new confirmed cases in a single day since the outbreak began.

Anthony Fauci, director of the Us National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in a speech at the Us National Academy of Medicine on Monday that the US is suffering from a severe epidemic but has not taken the extensive and strict lockdown measures that other countries have taken. Fauci said many European countries have extensive and sustained lockdown measures when only a few thousand new cases have been confirmed in a single day, while the United States has not been as strict as many European and Asian countries.
Expert: The darkest days of the epidemic are coming to America
Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, told US media Wednesday that in the next six to 12 weeks, the US will face the darkest period of the COVID-19 epidemic.

According to Osterholm, the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States in the fall and winter has been widely predicted by medical experts, and the public needs to be fully aware of the severity of the epidemic, trust the science, and stick to preventive measures.

Michael Osterholm, Director, Center for Infectious Disease and Policy Research, University of Minnesota: Based on this period of time, the next six to 12 weeks will be the darkest period of the COVID-19 epidemic in the United States.

Osterholm said, states the epidemic prevention and control measures is not uniform, it's very difficult for outbreaks across the country will be brought under effective control, there are still more than half the states with the new confirmed cases of obvious rise, and people's protection consciousness in lax, began to tired of wearing a mask, and maintaining the social distance, that will make the situation more difficult.
Michael Osterholm, Director of the Center for Infectious Disease and Policy Research at the University of Minnesota: Between now and the New Year's holiday, we're going to see a much higher number of new confirmed cases in the United States in a single day than 67,000 or even 75,000. The United States does not know how to effectively control the coVID-19 epidemic. Preventing and controlling coVID-19 is not only a matter of science, but also a matter of getting the whole society to pay enough attention to the epidemic and take joint actions.
