Mughal Emperor Akbar presented the Bengali timetable in 1556 (Gregorian date-book) to make the accumulation of land charge less demanding in 'Subah Bangla', quite a bit of which is currently in Bangladesh.

Bengali New Year is praised at the time the same number of other new years in the area. It is set apart by the sun moving from Pieces to Aries. This is an old celebration and when it was first watched, the development of the sun into Aries would have been nearer to the Vernal Equinox denoting the entry of spring in the northern half of the globe. The dates of these occasions contrast today because of the wobble of the earth on its hub over a 25,000 cycle - known as parade.

The customary welcome for Bengali New Year is 'Shubho Nabobarsho' which signifies 'Glad New Year'.
