The cities of Newark in Essex County and Elizabeth in Union County, both in New Jersey, are separated by the Newark Liberty International Airport. It is jointly owned by the two cities and is leased to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which serves as its operator.
The airport is situated 9 miles west-southwest of Manhattan in New York City and 3 miles south of Downtown Newark. John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and Newark Airport are the other two main airports that serve the New York metropolitan area. The Newark Liberty International Airport Station and the terminals are connected by AirTrain Newark.
If you've booked tickets from Newark, here are some ways you can get to the airport without (hopefully) causing any trouble.
Public transport
You can save some cash by using public transport in Newark. Use the subways to connect to the Newark Air Train from anywhere in Brooklyn. This is the cheapest way.
Cost: about $15
Time: 1 3⁄4 hours to 2 hours
AirTrain Newark doesn't take you into Manhattan or Brooklyn. It's just a quick ride from (or around) the airport to a special "Rail Transfer Station" where you change to the regular New Jersey Transit commuter train to the Pennsylvania station in New York. There are escalators and lifts in case you have large luggage.
Private transfer
The most convenient way how to get to Newark airport from Brooklyn is private transfer. It's a long ride, so think about your comfort. It's smart to book a day in advance or two days during the peak holiday. Newark airport taxi is a good option not only for larger or families, but also for individuals and couples who want a little more comfort.
Brooklyn is a very dynamic, busy and quite often overcrowded area. That's why catching a taxi or any other transport can be a real challenge. But it's so easy: book transport in advance by phone or online and be 100% sure to get to your destination without fuss or delay.
