New to SteemIt

in newbie •  6 years ago  (edited)

I created a steemit profile quite a while ago because a couple of YouTubers I follow post on steemit. I was initially interested in the platform and STEEM token, but don't really understand how it all works. So, today, I found a Discord group that purported to offer help to new and active Steemit users. In fact, it even says it is a Steemit Community For Newbies and makes the claims to aid new users with integration into the larger steemit apparatus. I joined the Discord and was booted within one minute. What a friendly welcome for a newbie from a so called friendly community.

The owner PM'd me and told me I needed to have a Steemit profile. I sent him my profile link and he told me I need to have some posts.

Ummm. Ok.

Why are you promoting a community for newbies but booting them from your Discord? I told him that I've had the account for a long time and have only been following some people and upvoting posts and I joined his Discord hoping to learn more about the platform and maybe find some How-To's. Well, apparently they have changed their focus from helping newbies to being a semi-closed community which appears to be interested in only helping themselves.

Well, sir (owner of said Discord - you know who you are), here is my first post. If your goals have changed, then fine, I have no issues with that; but, you might want to go back and delete your previous post telling people like me to "Come and grow with us today and start your journey on Steemit off right to get the most out of your efforts." I'll obviously have to find a different avenue of mentorship.
