Here's How Our Gardens Grow

in newbieresteemday •  7 years ago

It's been a busy, busy Spring around here! And, thanks to a weekly downpouring of liquid love from the heavens, they're growing like crazy! I haven't given you a tour in a couple of weeks, as there has just been so much going on. Time to slow down, show you what's growing on around here, in between my promotional efforts for our Market Days Stand.

garden 5.8 que sera turnips beets eggplant tomato.jpg

This is our Garden of Que Sera, Sera...and I just showed you pictures of it a few days ago...it's already growing in! The turnips to the left...the beets just to the right of them. (Turnip the beet...lol) We tucked in some eggplant where nothing was coming up yet...I tend to do that. Hence the garden's name! There are some seeds scattered in there too...carrots, peppers hot and sweet, some onion starts in various colors are planted about. And, of course, there are the volunteer flowers who came back from last year, when the garden was a mere wildflower bed. Big boy and better boy tomatoes are planted to the right of the picture. Scallion butts are in the green fairy pot, along with baby King Richard leeks. Waiting to see how well they do! We'll tour the back side next week.

garden 5.8 russian kale.jpg

I'd has the Russian Kale in a shadier spot, but it seems to love the extra sun. It's slowly growing. This is my first shot at growing kale. Cross your fingers for me! See that weird little green thing growing in the center? In the early spring the pecan trees lose their tassels and these little puffs of seed blow everywhere...their germination rate is out of this world, and they will grow in cracks of concrete, around the bottoms of the pots, in my planters! It's coming out, soon as I finish this!

garden 5.8 beets early lettuses herbs.jpg

I do multiple plants per pot, that are known to get along. My general rule is an early harvester, a later harvester and herbs to love. Or, one that grows upward, one that grown downwards and herbs. This pot holds beets, early lettuce and herbs.

garden 5.8 tmatoes tomatillos asparagus first year random bulb.jpg

This one has my first year asparagus working on its root system, along with both tomatoes and tomatillos. There's probably some garlic planted in there, too. I tucked the vampire slayer in to almost every pot in the neighborhood!
Oh, and apparently, there was a stray bulb in there, from last year. It'll make a pretty flower later...

garden 5.8 edamame and cukes.jpg

This is the home to cucumbers, who were growing very slowly, and some edamame that needed to be transplanted. Would you believe that I didn't see the baby edamame until I posted this larger picture! Old eyes...

garden 5.8 potatoes in grow bag.jpg

This is potato pot #1 of 4, holding baby yellow, red and purple potatoes. The lower leaves are beginning to yellow, and that's supposed to mean we're getting close. Although the potato grow bags said you can grow other crops with it, the leaf growth from the potatoes is quite dense. And I can't reach the tag where I listed what I put in there...It'll be a surprise! See the tiny little growths at the bottom of the bag to the left of the potatoes? Those are those danged tiny flying seeds! They do grow everywhere!

garden 5.8 raspberry flowers.jpg

The raspberry bush flowering...it was transplanted from a bare root plant at the end of March. In the middle of a rainstorm. Thank you, Danny and @smylie2005!

garden 5.8 strawberries.jpg

One patch of strawberries, this one in with a peach tree, also planted this season. We planted two each, of peach, pear and plum trees, and many varieties of berries.

garden 5.8 tomatillos.jpg

Tomatillos interplanted with rescue scallions...you know, the butts! We talked about my affinity for planting scraps many months ago. It's paying off with the scallions. They grow thicker, more like leeks.

garden 5.8 three sisters and their friends.jpg

This last one is the three sisters and friends...the sisters are corn, beans and squash...and there are a variety of each in this planter, both Summer and Winter squash; bush beans, varicolored beans and white runner beans. It's a 4' diameter grow bag a foot deep. In with the ladies are garlic, scallions, leeks, beets, turnips, carrots and early lettuces. With varicolored onions planted around the perimeter.

I can hear the gardens calling me! It's gotten hotter in the afternoons, now, with our high growing close to the 90 degree mark. My baby chickens shipped out last night, so they should be arriving tomorrow. We're quite excited about that! So, there's lots to get done, before their arrival...which I'm certain will totally distract me for a few days!

So, until next visit, my Steemian friends, I bid you a wonderful evening! Be well!

Everything is doing so great this year! Hope it all keeps up this steam as it gets warmer! :)

I surely hope so! Our Spring is so short... it's almost Summer heat, already!

Nice looking garden :)

Your garden is looking fabulous! Love the three sisters garden- I have been meaning to make one with my youngest son! Well done!

Thanks so much! My corn didn't grow as quickly as I had hoped, so some of our sisters are having to be self-reliant. I guess we are raising the smart and strong women of the garden, as well as in our human child rearing! Thanks for stopping by!

You have a beautiful garden!

Thank you! I have our weekly thunderstorms to thank! God always stirs up a good growth pattern!
